Uber has to treat its British drivers as employees.

13.11.2017.

A U.K court rejected the ride-hailer’s pleas to allow it to continue treating drivers as contractors. The verdict, reported by the Guardian, reaffirms a ruling from last year, and means the company should pay drivers minimum wage and give them time off. Uber is expected to appeal again. As we’ve explained, the firm has long-argued its driver-as-contractor approach provides workers with flexibility, but critics claim it’s exploitative. London is Uber’s biggest market outside America with 40,000 drivers, making the judgement potentially expensive—and inspirational for other cities.
